About Ryan

Ryan Gunther joined HarbourVest in 2004 and focuses on buyout, venture capital, and credit partnership investments in the US and emerging markets. He serves on the advisory boards of several private equity partnerships including those managed by AE Industrial Partners, Alpine Investors, American Industrial Partners, Brightstar Capital Partners, Excellere Partners, Genstar Capital, Kelso & Company, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Odyssey Investment Partners, Nautic Partners, Pamlico Capital, Parthenon Capital, Sentinel Capital Partners, Spark Capital, SK Capital, Symphony Technology Group, Thoma Bravo, and Trive Capital. Additionally, Ryan serves as a member of the Philanthropic Board of Advisors for Boston Children’s Hospital.

Prior to joining the Firm, Ryan spent three years with Market Metrics, a Boston-based strategy consulting firm that advises senior managers at leading asset management and insurance firms.

Ryan received a BA in Economics from Williams College in 2001 and an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School in 2010.

Continuation solutions encompass a host of transaction types in which a GP secures interim liquidity and/or additional primary capital for their LPs in a strongly performing asset, or set of assets, that the GP will continue to own and control. Specifically, they include continuation funds, new funds created by GPs for the purpose of acquiring the asset(s) that continue to be managed by the same GP and capitalized by one or several secondary buyers, or equity recapitalizations involving a direct equity or structured equity investment into a portfolio company. These transactions can also include a parallel investment from the GP’s latest fund into that same pool of assets (a “cross-fund trade”).
